Now you can know if a used iPhone you’re buying is stolen
If you have bought an iPhone from eBay or Craigslist, you know, it’s nothing less than a gamble.
You can end up with a locked device that may have been stolen – but thanks to a newly launched website from Apple, users can check if Activation Lock – anti theft feature of the iOS is switched on for the device? This is an iCloud tool and it checks the legitimacy of the iPhone.
The website will allow owners of the iPhone/iPod to check the activation status of the device. To check, the person needs to enter serial number or IMEI and the site will tell you if the device is locked down.
The person can learn how to deactivate the activation lock before selling it (this is necessary to remove the account that runs on the iPhone/iPad). Thanks to this, the person purchasing the device will be able to tell if a device has been stolen (or is suspicious), which can be crucial information for the buyer.
